The following are qualifications, grades or experience I have received that relate to physics:
MPhys(Hons) Physics with professional placement
First Year:
Grade Achieved: FIRST
My theoretical modules taught core concepts such as Maxwell’s Equations, wave and oscillation models and thermodynamic systems, while also covering complex mathematical proofs and methods. I completed self-assessed formative assignments on relevant physics problems every 14 days, applying newly learnt knowledge, and reinforcing my understanding.
In my twice-weekly lab sessions, I was working with lots of different equipment across multiple areas of physics, while using Excel and Python for data analysis. I worked with many different lab partners, gained valuable experience in maintaining a detailed logbook, and completed two 12-hour assessed projects: validating an equation for surface tension waves and investigating time of contact in an elastic collision. These projects involved working closely with my lab partner to design and implement experimental methods, while also developing my skills in scientific poster design, presentation and formal scientific report writing.
Physics GCSE
Grade Achieved: 9 (A**)
My Computer Science GCSE was with the exam board Pearson Edexcel. The specification can be found here.
This qualification taught me the basics of computational thinking and computer architecture and, while I already had significant coding ability, it allowed me to further my confidence and problem solving skills through programming in python.
Additional Mathematics Advanced FMSQ
Grade Achieved: A (highest grade achievable was A)
My Additional Maths Advanced FMSQ (Free-Standing Mathematics Qualification) was with the exam board OCR. The specification can be found here.
This qualification started to introduce me to more advanced mathematical and statistical methods.
Physics A-Level
Grade Achieved: A*
Mathematics A-Level
Grade Achieved: A*
My Mathematics A-Level was with the exam board Pearson Edexcel. The specification can be found here.
This qualification kept my mathematical understanding moving forward with more advanced mathmatical, statistical and mechanical methods.
Further Mathematics A-Level
Grade Achieved: A
My Further Mathematics A-Level was with the exam board Pearson Edexcel. The specification can be found here.
This qualification pushed my understanding in mathematics to a very high level. For this qualification I took 4 sections: Core Pure Mathematics, Further Statistics 1, Further Mechanics 1 and Decision Mathematics.
Mathematics IGCSE
Grade Achieved: 9 (A**)
My Mathematics GCSE was with the exam board Pearson Edexcel. The specification can be found here.
This qualification was important for basic mathematical and statistical procedures. It allowed me to create a strong base to my understanding of mathematics.
